History

1996

The Parramatta Adult Starters Band was established with Billie Holloway as conductor. Weekly rehearsals took place for members that wanted to learn a new instrument, or that hadn’t played in a long time.

1998

Peter Minkow takes over as conductor. Peter's experience and musicianship ensured the band continued to improve.

2004

John Ciccarelli is appointed conductor of Harmonix Concert Band. His fun and easy going conducting style ensured the band continued to thrive over his ten years.

2014

Long standing band member Steve O’Brien takes over conducting. Steve was very popular, and very experienced professional musician.

2019

In April of 2019, current conductor Hayden Dalton is appointed to Harmonix Concert Band. Hayden has been instrumental in driving the band into stronger and more challenging musical territory.

In September of 2019, Hayden Dalton along with David Humphreys established Harmonix Big Band. David is a seasoned musician, having performed and directed big bands all over the world.

2021

In March, Harmonix Concert Band performed to a packed audience at Epping Boys High School, along with the Cameraygal Wind Symphony in the premier performance of a commissioned work composed by Australian writer Greg Butcher.

In May, Harmonix Big Band were lucky to have esteemed jazz musician and drummer John Morrison to come along to rehearsal and give a masterclass. Members of Big Band benefited a lot from having John take the rehearsal, and even sit in and play a tune.

In December, Harmonix Big Band performs their first headliner concert; Sinatra Meets Bublé featuring the vocals of Jimmy Zappia. It was thrilling for Big Band to perform to a packed audience at Dural Memorial Hall.

2022

Harmonix Big Band continued their successful run of Sinatra Meets Buble Concerts, selling out venues in Thornleigh and Hornsby.

In April, members of Concert Band toured to Young NSW to participate and perform a world premier of a new composition commissioned by the Young Town Band. The tour also aligned with ANZAC Day, and members marched alongside the Young Town Band in the processional.

In August, Concert Band performed and participated in a mass community band workshop under the baton of Steve Williams. This was an invaluable experience to learn from one of the most experienced and respected conductors working in Australia today.

In September, Harmonix Big Band performed as apart of the entertainment at the Sydney Marathon. Runners appreciated the music as they went past.

2023

In April, Harmonix Concert Band hosted the Young Town Band and Tuggeranong Valley Band from Canberra for a combined workshop and concert. Alongside the two regular ensemble conductors Hayden Dalton and Rodney Clancy, guest conductors Jasmine Mills and Charles Wilkinson provided expertise in the workshop.

Harmonix Big Band continued on their streak of performances, including playing at the Galston 500, Twilight of Jazz at Ebenezer and the Sydney Marathon.

In December, both bands combined at the End Of Year Concert to perform the landmark piece Symphonic Dances from West Side Story conducted by Hayden Dalton. This was a monumental achievement in musicality, with this piece by far being the most challenging ever attempted.

2024

In April, Harmonix Concert and Big Band are touring to Canberra hosted by the Tuggeranong Valley Band for a workshop and performance. The Concert Band workshop was conducted by David Coit.
